The Chiweenie is a mixed breed dog–a cross between the Chihuahua and Dachshund dog breeds. Compact, energetic, and loyal, these pups inherited some of the best traits from both of their parents.

Chiweenies go by several names, including Choxie, Weeniehuahua, the German Taco, and the Mexican Hot Dog. Despite their unfortunate status as a designer breed, you can find these mixed-breed dogs in shelters and breed specific rescues, so remember to adopt! Don’t shop!

These adorable pups make great apartment dogs for active urban dwellers, though they are best suited to small or single-person households, and they have a tendency to be yappy.
