Cage nearly went broke due to excessive spending, and today he stars in as many movies as possible to avoid financial ruin. He played Ghost Rider in the Marvel Comics adaptation and it’s sequel, but his favorite superhero is Superman. Cage almost got to play the Man of Steel on the big screen. He was set to play Superman in Tim Burton’s Superman Lives, but the film was cancelled. Cage once owned a copy of Action Comics #1, which he purchased for $150,000. The comic, which features the first appearance of Superman, was sold at auction for $2.1 million. Nicolas Cage once outbid Leonardo DiCaprio for a dinosaur skull. He paid $276,000 for the fossil, but he had to return the Tarbosaurus skull after it was discovered the expensive relic was stolen and illegally smuggled into the US from Mongolia.
