Alberta Finance Minister Travis Toews presents fiscal update – August 27, 2020

At a news conference in Edmonton, Travis Toews, Alberta’s minister of finance and president of the Treasury Board, discusses details of the province’s fiscal update for the first quarter of 2020–21, as well as its annual report for the 2019–20 fiscal year. The Alberta government is now projecting a $24.2-billion deficit for the 2020–21 fiscal year as it copes with increased expenditures and declining revenue due to both the COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) pandemic and the global collapse in oil prices.
