Experiences and approach to the Mexican archaeological heritage from science and conservation
First Colloquium on Archeology and Restoration Mexico-Cambodia
Experiences and approach to the Mexican archaeological heritage from science and conservation. Dra. Yareli Jáidar Benavides IIE-UNAM.
In this presentation, different cases of conservation and restoration of various archaeological zones of Mexico are shown, both in the Mexican southeast and in the central highlands. Problems present in various archaeological assets, which through a set of knowledge and interdisciplinary work between Restorers, scientists, architects and archaeologists have been successfully resolved, examples of which will be cases of stone reliefs and mural paintings. Diagnosis and decision-making are addressed through the characterization of constituent materials, their degradation products, identification of added materials that may cause further deterioration and the systematic testing of materials and restoration treatments. The search for new materials and treatments, as well as their systematic evaluation and testing, such as the use of nanostructured materials, have helped to avoid the loss of priceless works.
