The XPeng G6 Standard Range is making a serious case for itself as the new "value king" of the D-segment EV market. Currently, the Leapmotor C10 Plus is the only contender at this price point.

In our latest review, we took this fresh variant to the roads of Seberang Perai, Penang, to see if the "Standard" badge means you’re getting a sub-standard experience. The short answer? Not even close.

The Compromises:
Let’s address the elephant in the room first. To achieve its aggressive new price point, XPeng has streamlined the G6 Standard Range. If you’re comparing it to the Long Range or Performance variants, you’ll notice a few hardware changes:

Camera Count: Reduced from 13 down to 5.

ADAS Logic: Shifted from XPILOT 2.5 to ADAS 2.0.

Upholstery: The plush Nappa leather has been swapped for high-quality synthetic leather.

Official DVR: No longer officially available out of the box.

While that sounds like a lot on paper, the reality on the road is surprisingly different.

Performance: Can You Feel the 0.3 Seconds?
The Standard Range features a 68.5 kWh LFP battery powering a rear-mounted motor. While the Long Range is technically faster, the Standard Range is only 0.3 seconds slower in the century sprint (0-100 km/h). In the real world driving, you would hardly feel the difference.

The G6 still retains its signature 800V architecture, meaning you aren’t just fast on the road; you’re incredibly fast at the charger too. Despite the hardware "downgrades," the car handles beautifully. The chassis remains composed, the steering is precise.

Comfort & Entertainment:
One thing XPeng didn't touch was the core DNA of the cabin. The "fake" leather seats are so well-executed that most passengers won't even know the difference—they remain some of the most comfortable and supportive seats in the segment.

And then there’s the audio. The 16-speaker XOpera in-house sound system remains standard. It is, quite frankly, one of the best-tuned proprietary systems we’ve tested. Whether you’re listening to a podcast in traffic or blasting your favorite playlist on the North-South Expressway, the clarity and depth are phenomenal.

The Pricing Game: XPeng G6 vs. The Rivals
This is where it gets interesting for Malaysian buyers. After current rebates, the XPeng G6 Standard Range retails at a price point that puts it right in the crosshairs of the Leapmotor C10 Plus.

While the C10 Plus holds the title of the cheapest D-segment EV SUV, the G6 offers a more "tech-forward" feel and superior charging speeds. More importantly, the G6 Standard Range is now significantly cheaper than the entry-level Tesla Model Y RWD, making it a massive threat to the American giant.
