Cobh Ramblers Football Club Supporters, Ireland 1983

Cobh Ramblers supporters are confident ahead of the FAI Cup semi final replay against Sligo Rovers.

Cobh Ramblers are to play their second replay of the Football Association of Ireland (FAI) Cup semi-final against Sligo Rovers at Flower Lodge in Cork.

Their supporters are backing Cobh Ramblers to win.

The whole town is behind them.

Even a rugby fan tips the team to win,

You can’t go wrong with the Ramblers.

A Cobh Ramblers supporter has confidence in his team’s superiority because,

Sure we couldn’t lose, God and all is on our side.

Another supporter has even named his dog in honour of the team,

He’s the first dog in Cobh called Rambler.

However Rambler’s owner will not be renaming his dog Rover if Cobh Ramblers lose the semi-final.

The match finished in a scoreless draw after extra time and the teams had to play a fourth game to decide which of them would play in the FAI Cup final at Dalymount Park in Dublin. In the third semi-final replay Sligo Rovers were victorious and they went on to beat Bohemians 2-1 to win the final of the FAI Cup on 23 April 1983.

An RTÉ News report broadcast on 13 April 1983. The reporter is Tommie Gorman.
