Can you survive Minecraft without leaving the Nether?

So I tried surviving in the new Minecraft Nether without ever going to the Overworld, by using the new content added in the latest snapshot! The plan was simple: find a Fortress for gear, find some mushrooms for food, and then... beat the Wither!
