Puma Taking Down Guanaco in Patagonia

Puma Taking Down Guanaco in Patagonia. Gorgeous 2-year-old puma, Amarga, preys on a young Guanaco in Torres del Paine National Park in Patagonia. This is a unique place, with glaciers, mountains and lakes — these dramatic landscapes are where pumas roam wild. Through conservation efforts and national park regulations, the puma is flourishing. Heartbreaking but part of the cycle of life.

The guanaco (/ɡwɑːˈnɑːkoʊ/ gwah-NAH-koh; Lama guanicoe) is a camelid native to South America, closely related to the llama. Guanacos are one of two wild South American camelids; the other species is the vicuña, which lives at higher elevations.
