Punching with weights is STILL stupid! Pull, don’t push: resistance bands for a powerful left hook

Punching while holding dumbells or other weights in the hands is a popular exercise with many boxing enthusiasts, after all, they saw Floyd Mayweather do it once in a YouTube video! And I’m here to tell you once again that weighted punches will not train you the way you think they will. Instead, you’ll end up with shoulder injuries and poor fighting technique.

But what about rubber resistance bands? Can those fitness bands be used to more effectively train punching technique without risk of shoulder injuries? Well... yes! But probably not the way you’re thinking. Contrary to popular thought, the body mechanics of punching has nothing to do with pushing against resistance! Instead, punching power from the upper body is derived from pulling the non striking shoulder back.
