The Last HEMI -Segment 16 - Preparing for Paint

If prep work is a mountain, we're nearing the summit. Look closely and you can see the paint mixing room from here! While we're all getting eager to see a fresh coat of Bright White grace the Charger's panels, a few more steps had to be taken to ensure the body met our strict standards.

Underneath the car, a coat of polyester primer was applied to help fill in any small imperfections. If you're unfamiliar with the product, polyester primer is a corrosion-resistant sanding primer based on polyester resin. It has excellent filling properties, sands easily and can be topcoated with a number of different products. The inside, engine bay and trunk all received the same treatment.

Inside, things took another step towards factory correct with the application of seam sealer. Chrysler had their own style when it came to applying the product, so our team went to great lengths to create the same hand-brushed look. Sure, all of this will be hidden when the car is complete but knowing the car is sealed and protected in a factory-correct manner makes the process worth it.

After a few guide coats and plenty of blocking, it will be time to get the Charger into a paint booth and watch the transformation begin. Stay tuned!
