Live Cleveland Irish Radio Show on St. Patrick’s Day ☘️ Performing O’Carolan’s “Eleanor” Celtic Harp

Found this blast from the past, 2019! That year was a whirlwind of incredible changes for me, and this was the start. Playing in the beautiful arcade of downtown Cleveland on the Gerry Quinn Irish Radio on St. Patrick’s Day, could it get any more Irish than this? ☘️ I think this was my first big public performance on my first harp. I remember getting up at 5 am to get ready to beat the boisterous crowd that overtakes Cleveland every year! I had a lot of support from my boyfriend then to make this happen! That was an experience, performing and then partying Irish style 🇮🇪 in the Arcade during the parade on Euclid Avenue…I’ll never forget it!

This song is by the famous blind Celtic harpist, singer, and composer Turlough O’Carolan (1670-1738). One of the last true Irish Bards and harpers of his time, his music is still celebrated as it reflects the true Irish spirit despite the English oppression. He has written numerous songs for his patrons; this one is called “Eleanor.” I didn’t perform this just for its beauty, I played it in honor of the last matriarch of the McCarthy family, my great-aunt Eleanor. She was the last who remembered the old. She set the stages for the new generations in our family, carrying on many other Irish lineages. Thankful to have had this opportunity to celebrate my heritage! Thank you, Gerry and Quinn!
