'Akshay Kumar' was initially offered the role of Baazigar, but turned it down due to its negativity. 'Arbaaz Khan' turned it down for the same reason and then went on to do a full fledged negative role in Abbas-Mastan's Daraar (1996). Anil Kapoor and 'Salman Khan' rejected it for the same reason.

Kajol had lots of trouble with the "Mera Dil Tha Akela" part in the song, Baazigar O Baazigar, because she felt the emotions on the script were extremely exaggerated. Shah Rukh Khan then helped her by jokingly pinching her and she "learned" how to act the part properly.

The film established careers of Shahrukh Khan, Kajol and Shilpa Shetty. While Shahrukh Khan was in London for the films premiere he got a call from Yash Johar saying that the film is big hit in India. Ajay Devgan was offered the lead role but he refused, thinking the directors would approach him again with a higher price. However this did not occur and Shahrukh Khan was signed.

Abbas Mastan wanted Sridevi in the dual role but then choose two new faces Kajol and Shilpa Shetty as audience would not accept a new actor Shahrukh Khan who plays villain killing a well established actress Sridevi. Baazigar had a close to Diwali release and was a blockbuster.
