Archeologists in Pompeii uncover ancient street food shop

Archaeologists in Pompeii, Italy, are touting a discovery some are calling "extraordinary" after finding a frescoed hot food and drinks shop that appeared to have served up the equivalent to street food to passersby in the ancient city before it was buried in a volcanic eruption.

The thermopolium, Latin for hot drinks counter, was discovered in the archaeological park's Regio V site, which is not yet open to the public. It was unveiled on Saturday.

'It's the first time we are excavating an entire thermopolium,' said Massimo Ossana, the director of the Pompeii archaeological park.
