Fluorescent Mineral Mix

In this video, I demonstrate the fluorescence of two beautifully cut mineral mixes of Willemite, Franklinite, and Calcite. One is a loose cabochon which I am keeping in my collection while the other one is wrapped and available for sale.

The Mineral Mix.

Franklinite is a member of the spinel group which sometimes has iron in it and it often occurs with willemite, calcite, and red zincite--it's the black crystals embedded in the mix. I've seen other specimens glow a deep red as well as the green but this could be due to a UV lamp or lightbox which I do not have at the moment.

Franklinite was a minor ore or uranium, mercury, and sulfuric acid and gets its name from its initial discovery at the Franklin Mine and Sterling Hill Mines in New Jersey.
