One of the recording sessions of Michael Jackson’s (They Don’t Care About Us)

When Michael Jackson recorded
"They Don't Care About Us" for his 1995 HIStory album, he wasn't chasing another pop hit. He was creating one of the most politically charged songs of his career.

Built around pounding military style drums and anthemic chants, the track tackled themes of injustice, discrimination and media scrutiny, becoming a rare protest song to break into the global mainstream.

Despite controversy surrounding some of its original lyrics, the song reached No. 1 in multiple countries, became a staple of Jackson's live shows and remains one of the most powerful statements in his catalogue.

More than 30 years later, its message continues to resonate, helping cement it as one of the defining protest records in pop music history.
