How an UMBRA Oh Chair is made - MADE in AMERICA

UMBRA's 'Oh Chair' was an instant classic of contemporary design.

From the creative mind of famed designer Karim Rashid, this chair is an icon of comfort, design, affordability, and function. It's amazing. The chair has been featured in InStyle magazine, the New York Times and other "hot style" magazines. Karim Rashid won the Silver IDEA Award for the Oh Chair in 1999. Oh’s other awards include the 1999 Good Design Award, 1999 Design Journal Gold Award and the IDSA Award. The chair is in the San Francisco MOMA’s permanent collection. The seat is made of Polypropylene and has a matte finish. The Oh Chair is contoured enough to offer superior support. The plastic flexes just enough with your body so you aren't contorted into a weird shape. And, since the chair is made of plastic, cleanup is easy. You can just wipe any spills right off! Also – because it is made of plastic, it is also extremely light and portable. Umbra is the worldwide leader in original, casual, contemporary, affordable design for the home. The company's products are available at over 25,000 retailers in more than 75 countries. Umbra designs and manufactures products for every room, including picture frames, garbage cans, window treatments, kitchenware, tabletop accessories, bathroom accessories, decorative hardware and furniture.

Umbra began in 1979, when boyhood friends Paul Rowan and Les Mandelbaum joined forces to create exciting, everyday products that alter the overall aesthetic of a home, beginning with a printed window shade unlike anything then in the market ("umbra" means shade in Latin).
