My Filipino Lola (grandmother in Filipino) is a formidable woman. A motherless childhood, a seamstress working for the Japanese in WWII occupied Manila, a mother of seven, Lola has had a fascinating life in the Philippines.

The great women in our lives don’t have to be celebrities. It is through Lola, and all of the women before Lola, their personal stories and struggles, that creates a legacy of wonderfully, intelligent and passionate women in our family to choose their own paths.
