“When You Find My Body”

In 2013, 66 year old Geraldine Largay got lost while hiking the Appalachian Trail in Maine.
The largest lost-person search in Maine history ensued. Hundreds searched on foot, horseback, ATV and by helicopter.
Maine wardens, considered among the best at wilderness search and rescue coordinated the event.
They never found Geraldine Largay.
Two years later, a surveyor literally stepped on a collapsed tent covered with detritus. Inside was the body of Geraldine Largay. Her diary indicated she had lived 26 days after getting lost.
Her final entry began, “When you find my body…”
Our story was the first (other than the wardens) to take the audience to Geraldine Largay’s final resting place. It shows the scene and considers some answers to a story that is already part of Maine lore.
