Fort King George: The Georgia's first fort.

Today we visit Fort King George in Darien Georgia. This was the first "fort built in Georgia at a time when the Georgia frontier was still considered part of the South Carolina Colony. Built in 1721 and Garrisoned by an "Invalid Company" of elderly British soldiers for seven years, the fort was finally abandoned in 1728 after a total of 140 Officers and Enlisted men had succumbed to disease, and or the harsh coastal environment. In 1736 General James Oglethorpe resurrected the fort and brought down Scottish Highlanders to establish the community. after the community was established the fort was abandoned again.
