FDNY THE SUPERPUMPER THE MIDDLETOWN N.Y. MUSTER 8/12/16

The Superpumper served the FDNY from 1965 to 1982. Its first fire was August 12 1965 where it pumped 7 million gallons of water at a Brooklyn lumberyard fire. Powered by a Napier-Deltic 18 cylinder engine, the Delaval pump could supply 8800 GPM at 350 lbs. psi. or 4400 GPM AT 700 lbs. psi. At the latter pressure a brick wall could be knocked down in a single sweep. The Superpumper's last run was April 24 1982 having went to work at over 900 multiple alarm fires while making over 2000 runs.
