Superyacht Raymarine FLIR M300 Thermal Imaging Camera demo and review with Sunseeker Southampton
I just had the opportunity to test first-hand the latest Raymarine M300 series gyro-stabilised thermal imaging/low-light camera which is aimed at the pleasure boat market.
Basic FLIR camera units start from around £6.5k and range to well in excess of £100k - depending on the lever of stabilisation / definition / range required.
The camera seen in this video is around £22k inc Vat plus installation/joystick etc, and would be typically fitted on a 45-90ft pleasure yacht. The model is the M364C
Utilised through the latest Raymarine MFD hybrid touch screen, there is some additional functionality (target monitoring via their proprietry augmented reality technology, plus the benefit of a colour overlay to the basic thermal picture.
If using with a Garmin/Simrad/Furuno/Hatteland screen, there are still a host of great features, giving real confidence to be out on the water in darkness/low-light/fog.
I have received great feedback from owners that we have already supplied systems to on new-build Sunseeker yachts over the last few years, but it was great to go and test the system for myself with the guys from Raymarine demonstrating how the menus/camera fine adjustments work etc.
We can arrange retro-fitment to your existing motor yacht or of course to any new-build project at the Sunseeker shipyards.
A massive thank you to Wetwheels Solent, who work closely with Raymarine to demonstrate their onboard tech, and kindly took us out into Portsmouth harbour on their Cheetah catamaran.
Wetwheels are an amazing foundation with 6 vessels currently in the fleet across the UK and CI. They allow disabled people the opportunity to get out on the water and experience driving a motor boat first-hand. The custom built Cheetah cats have full wheelchair access from dockside to helm.

(special thanks to skipper Keith who took us out)
Thanks also to Harry Heasman (Raymarine UK & Ireland Sales Manager) for organising the demo, and talking us through all the options.
