About “The Soul of Ferguson Revue”
Filmed at Earthdance Farm in Ferguson, Missouri on June 20, 2020, “The Soul of Ferguson Revue” is a musical celebration of optimism and love amid a very trying time for the Ferguson and St Louis community (with the COVID-19 pandemic and ongoing fight for racial justice weighing heavy). The Revue features an introduction by Ferguson’s own Michael McDonald and an opening second line with recently elected Ferguson Mayor Ella Jones marching alongside the Red and Black Brass Band. The concert also includes special performances by Thomas Owens (Brian’s father), Malena Smith (LIFE Creative Group) and Joanna Serenko (NBC’s The Voice).

Soul of Ferguson Revue is the first in a content series called Homegrown Soul. The arts community has been hit hard by COVID-19 and its resulting health and safety restrictions. Venues are closed, artists unable to perform and stage professionals, producers, and agents are unable to earn a living. The Homegrown Soul initiative - spearheaded by Brian Owens and Shelley Dotson (Hurley Creative Consulting) - was created with the aim to give artists a platform to perform, venues unique content to share with their patrons, and patrons the opportunity to support the artists and venues they love. About Brian Owens:
Music and love define the artistry of singer, songwriter and dedicated community activist Brian Owens. These qualities radiate from all of his work, including his duet with five time Grammy-winning and legendary vocalist Michael McDonald on SOUL OF FERGUSON, and the heartfelt interpretation of Sam Cooke's "A Change Is Gonna Come," which Owens filmed and recorded with his father, Thomas Owens. Their powerful performance ignited the internet and has received more than 100 million views on Facebook and YouTube. Owens and McDonald appear as featured guests on an episode of SANBORN SESSIONS, hosted by award-winning saxophonist, composer and arranger David Sanborn from his home studio in New York. Additionally, Owens serves as the Community Music Artist in Residence with the E. Desmond Lee Fine Arts Collaborative at the University of Missouri St. Louis.
