Educating young people is not a one-size-fits-all endeavour | Brett Wood | TEDxBrisbane
Education shouldn't be about attaining a certain score but rather about providing young people with the skills and knowledge they need to live meaningful lives filled with passion and purpose, according to experienced educator and the founder and principal of Music Industry College, Brett Woods.
This innovative high school (the only Australian high school with a registered nightclub) has demonstrated that there is purpose, virtue, and positive impact to be gained by embracing what young people love (in this instance, music) and using that as the vehicle for them to shape their own learning. Because educating young people is not a one-size-fits-all endeavour. Brett Wood, the founder and principal of Music Industry College is an experienced educator having spent sixteen years teaching with Education Queensland and working with disadvantaged youth for a further eleven years at The Spot Youth Services before establishing the college.
Brett is a reluctant author, businessman and administrator. His passion for helping young people reach their potential is the driving force that guides his entrepreneurial spirit. He was recognised for his dedication to disadvantaged youth with the awarding of the Centenary Medal in 2001. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
