John Grinder - Using the Unconscious as an Ally in Decision Making

In this video, John Grinder, co creator of Classic NLP and New Code NLP, coaches a subject to engage his unconscious mind to act as as an ally for decision making. John, overlaps the postural sway method with other internal representations to produce an internal involuntary signal to support decision making, where in this case the subject had 3 distinct options to choose from.

The language John uses, both in addressing the audience and the subject is instrumental in setting up the internal response the subject accesses, as well as the explicit physical movement to disrupt the postural equilibrium experienced in the everyday state of physical upright posture. The combined effect enables the unconscious to produce an involuntary postural movement, which John in the video refers to the pull/tug.

Postural sway, refers to horizontal physical body movement, often only visible at the micro muscle level.

The sway occurs, when there is an alteration in state which changes the input from multiple sensory systems including the vestibular, somatosensory, and visual systems.

The change in state, which enables the sway is influenced by the stance of a subject, where when standing upright, with chin facing upwards, and the absence of physical tension, the vestibular sense which controls equilibrium and directional information is manipulated.

The visual system is also disrupted in this intervention, when John, rotates the client which adjusts the verticality of entire body and head motion and spatial sorting of external visual data as well as the internal representation of the external data, when the input of visual data is no longer available due to eye closure.

These neurological inputs and processing in the vestibular, somatosensory, and visual systems, usually allow us to maintain balance in the everyday state, and when interrupted produce the sway effect from the unconscious to act as signal, as demonstrated in the video.

Note this demonstration is an adaptation of the standard postural sway used in hypnosis and also New Code NLP to verify communication with the unconscious mind.
