On Friday, Judge Lewis Liman issued a split decision in litigation tied to It Ends With Us, underscoring limits on enhanced damages and confirming fee recovery. The court rejected Blake Lively’s bid for treble and punitive damages against Justin Baldoni and Wayfarer Studios, but allowed her to recover attorneys’ fees and costs. Liman wrote that her statements were protected by California Civil Code Section 47.1, found she “prevailed on her defense,” and said there was no evidence of malice. The ruling resolves her separate claim for fees while denying the larger financial recovery she initially sought. For Baldoni and Wayfarer Studios, avoiding enhanced damages is a notable outcome even as they remain responsible for her legal fees, bringing the dispute closer to conclusion.
