Global National: June 7, 2020 | Montreal police chief uninvited from latest Canadian protest

Protests against systemic racism and police brutality continued in Canada on Sunday, but in Montreal the city's top cop was uninvited after organizers said the community was not ready to have him there due to what they describe as years of difficult relationships between racialized groups and police. As Phil Carpenter reports, people want Sunday's march to be the last with the hope that political and police leadership will better listen to racialized communities.

An independent investigation into the allegations of police brutality by a First Nations chief during an arrest over an expired licence plate has been launched by Alberta's civilian police review agency in order to investigate how police handled the arrest. David Akin looks at whether these civilian review agencies can effect change.

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a large impact in air travel, with the International Civil Aviation Organization estimating global travel will see a drop of 1.2 billion travellers in 2020, but it's also resulting in the largest ever annual drop in CO2 emissions this year. As Redmond Shannon reports, even climate activists have been caught off guard by the impact.

As many have taken to staying home and practicing physical distancing to prevent an increase in COVID-19 cases, the recent protests sparked by the death of George Floyd, a Black man who died while in police custody on Memorial Day, have some concerned it could result in a rise in community transmission of the coronavirus. Jeff Semple speaks with experts to find out what people should know as protests continue.
