Try a Drink From the Famous Bar Featured in La La Land | Mixed Messages

For this latest episode, our resident mixologist travels down to Hermosa Beach, California to visit the historic Lighthouse Cafe, a popular local jazz spot made famous by the film La La Land. Their Kiss Kiss is a whiskey-based twist on a traditional Mai Tai, and uses homemade orgeat as its signature touch. Kiss Kiss
1½ oz. whiskey
½ oz. orange liqueur
½ oz. orgeat (see recipe below)
1 oz. lime juice
Fresh mint
Ground cinnamon

To make the orgeat, combine 1 cup unsweetened almond milk, 1½ cups of sugar, 5 drops of orange blossom water and 10 drops of almond extract in a saucepan and heat until the sugar dissolves. After the mixture has cooled, add the orgeat, whiskey, orange liqueur and lime juice to a cocktail shaker. Add crushed ice and shake until the ice has melted. Pour into a rocks glass, then fill with crushed ice. Add a pinch of cinnamon and fresh mint leaves for garnish.
