Sawing Hardwood with a Big Advance-Rumely Steam Engine - Part 1

More of the fast air set steam powered sawmill at work. It takes some horsepower to cut hardwood with this mill and this sawyer.

Part 2 will show cutting some oversize logs.

The dogs are set by air, the chain log turner is hydraulic. There is no electricity involved, the air compressor and hydraulic pump are belt driven from the saw arbor shaft. The edger is also belt driven off the saw shaft. The only gas engine involved is a little Honda to run the sawdust blower.

The tractors are diesel, no sparks. There is an exemption for the electric starter, as it is not used during operation. Tractor tires are normally foamed, with no air.

Shot with my LG Q-7 cellphone while the big camera was grinding away on a tripod. The Q-7 is a great camera in strong light, not so much in dim light.
