What Are Cancers? Cancer Immunology with Prof. Dr. William Murphy

Dr. William J. Murphy is a scientist with extensive experience with immune and the cancer system interactions. Dr. Murphy has graciously offered to help us understand cancer immunology.
In the session today we will address as many of the following points as possible:
What is cancer? Basic tumor biology and misconceptions
Causes of cancer, changing demographics
Different cancer types and outcomes
Invasion and metastasis
Factors affecting incidence and progression (and outcome)
How diagnose and treat (past and present)- factors affecting decisions
How do we study cancer in the research laboratory? Limitations
Immunology of cancer
Brief bio of Dr. Murphy:
My research for the past 30 years has centered on translational studies involving modeling cancer-immune system interactions starting with my earlier studies on NK cells and HSCT in mouse models and later at the National Cancer Institute on their role in cancer immunotherapy which then expanded to issues in immunotherapy in general.
