CataractCoach 1226: primary posterior capsulorhexis in cataract surgery
There are some cases where it is preferable to make a primary posterior capsulorhexis at the time of cataract surgery instead of opting for a YAG laser capsulotomy months later. This is such a case because the patient is young and has a more solid vitreous with a firm anterior hyaloid face. There is also a dense central posterior capsular plaque which cannot be removed using the irrigation/aspiration probe. The technique is relatively easy to learn and as show in this video, even a resident can perform it successfully.
