Now that the Planet of the Apes reboot trilogy has wrapped up, the franchise is finally in a position to depict a full-on ape planet. The trailer reveals that a massive time jump has taken place following War for the Planet of the Apes, with Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes following a developed yet fragmented ape civilization at war with itself.

The Kingdom of The Planet of The Apes trailer boasts several hints about the state of the apes’ world following the prequel trilogy. Several generations have passed since Caesar’s time, and the planet is beginning to resemble that of 1968’s original Planet of the Apes movie. The franchise is finally in a position to remake the classic films; however, there’s ample evidence to suggest that the upcoming movie will blow past the plot of Planet of the Apes and will instead tackle the original run’s later installments.
