Dell Dimension 4600 Windows 7 Upgrade Attempt, Part 2

Originally recorded January 4, 2018.

Last we left off, this system, for whatever reason, even with the hard drive disconnected, refused to boot off the flash drive, or would corrupt it. I disconnected the existing hard drive and hooked up a spare. I wiped the first 100MB of the drive, and tried booting Windows 7 from the flash drive, and AGAIN it would not boot!

I also learned during this video that the BIOS in this machine is very temperamental, and requires the drive be "turned back on" in the BIOS after it had been disconnected, otherwise it doesn't know it's there and won't bother searching for it.

This machine just didn't want to cooperate with anything I was trying to do. This is nothing I haven't dealt with before. I just wasn't expecting such a hassle, as these old Dells are usually never problematic.

Eventually, I ended up resorting to burning an actual DVD of Windows 7. After doing that, because of course, more problems, the drive in the system, while a DVD-ROM drive, refused to read the disc I burned, so I had to disconnect all of the optical drives and put a spare on top of the machine to get the OS to boot.

After all of that, I finally was able to install an OEM copy of Windows!!!
