How Common are Mucoceles?

Dr Joseph Nemeth discusses the Oral Mucocele
A mucocele is when a tiny salivary gland in your lip becomes damaged or blocked. This can happen if you bite your lower lip, get a piercing, or damage a salivary duct in your lip.

Generally, an oral mucous cyst is a harmless swollen gland that goes away on its own.

Should the cyst be popped?
No, the Cyst will likely go away over the course of a few weeks, however it can be removed with a laser, cryotherapy, or by removing the blocked salivary duct.

Although more unpleasant than harmful, a mucocele is something that you should get looked at by a professional. Try to avoid biting or touching the #cyst if you can.
