All About My Novel | HONEY VINEGAR

Hey! We're doing these videos again! Please keep in mind this is just a little ramble about the first draft of a book, it's not meant to be a pitch or anything like that. Details will certainly change from what's in this video (as a few already have actually haha) and this was just meant to be an informal chat to give some context for my book. I definitely don't have enough space to go into every concept or idea or give too much detail, so it's really quite a vague overview and I didn't even address the majority of the characters/conflicts/plot. Nonetheless, I hope you enjoy this little chat about my current novel!

For a general plot summary that's a bit more put together than this video:

In a remote town in 1950s Northern BC, thirteen-year-old Sybil is reunited with her mother and half-sister, Freyja, after the affair that led to Sybil’s birth finally catches up to them. Sybil reluctantly draws her sister into her world, but Freyja is struck by lightning, and Sybil narrowly saves her life.

Rumours spread quickly. A legend begins to form in the town, and strange events—a sickness that affects all the children, winter storms in September—only fuel the town’s obsessive mythology.

Sybil learns of a spy and storyteller, a soft-spoken boy named Whisper who has developed an obsession with Freyja after witnessing the lightning strike and has become the root of the legends. As an obstacle in the way of his obsession, Whisper spins Sybil into the villain, portraying her as a mad witch doctor.

As the folklore is written, Sybil fights to control how she is portrayed, to protect herself and Freyja from the dangers of their personas as the threat for violence increases, and is faced with her ultimate choice to either become or defy the legacy that’s been created for her.
