Timing Belt Change - 2008 Jeep Wrangler JK 2.8L CRD - Service Tutorial

In this video we go through the servicing steps of a timing belt change in a 2008 Jeep Wrangler JK with a 2.8L CRD diesel engine.

According to the European factory service manual there is a 200.000 kms / 10 years maintenance interval schedule for the timing belt change. However experts usually advise to change the belt every 100.000 km / 5 years instead. In this specific JK we have changed the belt at 200.000 kms, but this has not been the first belt change as we found an aftermarket belt inside. We decided to go ahead with a genuine VM timing belt, tensioner and water pump kit this time. Some says that you can change the belt without locking the camshaft, but if you go the secure way as we did, than purchase and use a camshaft locking tool and purchase a new camshaft plug as well. In the camshaft locking tool box you will also find the crankshaft locking bolt. Otherwise you just need your regular tools for the job.
