6000 Miles In 5 Days - Hauling a Fifth Wheel Travel Trailer Cross Country - Part 4
6000 Miles In 5 Days - Hauling a Fifth Wheel Travel Trailer Cross Country - Part 4
Day 4 started out a little boring. Driving through Texas ALL DAY, and it was foggy and cold. We drove 18 hours this day, eventually driving through Arkansas and half of Tennessee through the night, so we didn't film much. We grabbed a hotel room just east of Nashville, and the next day we headed out on what we hoped to be our final leg of the trip to deliver the fifth wheel trailer to it's new home in West Virginia.
Well, the weather forecast at our destination was for freezing temps and snow. Not good. We had to get there rather than wait it out because... well, we just had to get there. Heading north through Virginia and it starting snowing and sleeting and freezing, and it was night time. We got close to our destination and realized it was too dangerous to try and haul this huge trailer up the mountain in a one lane road covered with snow and ice. So, we dropped it off at the bottom of the mountain at a local firehouse parking lot and planned on getting a nights sleep on the mountain and hiring a bigger truck to haul it up in the morning. It was about 11:30pm and still snowing and sleeting when we dropped the trailer off and started to make our way up the mountain.
We almost didn't make it. As you can see towards the end of the video, the roads were so icy that we started to slip off the road towards the edge of a cliff. We wound up getting stuck in a ditch just 1/4 mile from the house we were heading to... in the middle of nowhere on top of a mountain. It took us about 2 hours to get "unstuck", and we made a fire in the wood stove and crashed for the night. Tomorrow will be another day.
