Cab Ride with Freight Train over Albula Pass - Part 6 (HD)

The movie shows a cab ride with freight train #5135 from Landquart over the famous Albula Line of the Rhaetian Railways to Samedan. The train is pulled by GE 6/6'' #701 Raetia.

In part 6, we see the train running from Preda to Samedan through the 5'865m long Albula tunnel, then downgrade through the Val Bever to Bever station in the Engadin valley. From there, it is only a short hop to Samedan.

In Preda, the construction site of the new Albula tunnel is visible. The new tunnel will replace the old one while the old one will continue to be used for emergencies and as an escape route. The new tunnel will be opened in 2021 at a cost of approximately CHF 345 Mio. Due to a current locomotive shortage for construction trains, RhB reactivated a Ge 4/4' donated to the transport museum in Lucerne. The engine is now in Landquart to be brought back to operating conditions. This will allow RhB to power two construction trains with each 2 Ge 4/4' in double traction.
