Oil Pump Seal Leaking on Toyota Engine (Tercel Paseo)

An oil slick developed under my Toyota Tercel that looked like the oil pan was leaking. Upon further inspection, there was oil all over inside the timing belt cover where the oil pump is located.

This video shows the grease and oil inside the timing cover and how to identify the leaking seal. The oil was cleaned up and a new seal kit was used to make suitable repairs. An inspection of the timing belt was also included, the genuine Toyota timing belt was reinstalled on this engine.

The seal kit was available from Fel-Pro TCS 45729 for a good price. The oil pump pulley was hard to remove because it had red loctite on the threads from the factory, the same grade of thread sealant was reapplied and torqued to 27 ft lbs.

The old seals were "baked" and very brittle. This is a common problem on older Toyota engines. Refer to other Camry videos for some specific details on oil pouring out of the engine.
