Cold Steel Pipe Hawk vs CRKT Woods Chogan Review and comparison
Cold Steel Pipe Hawk or CRKT Woods Chogan ?
In this video I will compare the similarities and differences of these two popular tomahawks and do a few camp chores. This is not an all out review, more of an overview for those wondering which one might be a better fit for them. These are two very popular budget friendly camp tools and either one would be a good choice.
Third attempt at uploading so not listing all specifications, sorry, they are easily found on your retailer of choice sale page or the manufacturers website.
The main difference of note between the two is the weight, the Pipe hawk weighs in at 16.8oz and the CRKT weighs in at 23.1oz ( head weight only ) handles vary in weight. The CRKT is much heavier. The handle on the CRKT is shorter than the Cold Steel. 19 inches (listed) as opposed to the Cold Steel 22 inch handle, not a big deal but notable. Both Tomahawks are made from drop forged 1055 high carbon steel. Both were dull on arrival and needed the head fitted to the handle. Edge retention was in my opinion good, neither seemed to stand above the other and both were fairly sharp even after processing firewood.
Not much else to add, I think it comes down to preference really. Depending on your needs either one is a good choice....then again I don't have to choose I have both.
If you are interested in a Kydex sheath for your CRKT or Cold Steel Tomahawk I am making them, as well as some other select model axes. You can contact me via email listed in my "about" page on the home tab or you can see what I have listed on my Ebay seller page that is ready for immediate sale : my username is ratherbwheelin https://www.ebay.com/usr/ratherbwheelin?_trksid=p2047675.l2559
