The London Underground, specifically the Metropolitan Line, is well-known as the first ever underground railway in the UK and indeed the world. But do you know what the second underground railway in the UK was? The answer comes in the form of an ambitious and daring project opened in 1896 to give Glasgow the rapid transit system it so desperately needed as a growing city. It's odd, it's quirky, and it's quite unlike anything else you've ever travelled on – especially if you're a Londoner like me. But most importantly, it's served the people of Glasgow for nearly 125 years, and become more than just an underground railway, but the beating heart of the proud city itself. Allow me to introduce you to the Clockwork Orange, otherwise known as – the Glasgow Subway!
