South Bay Digs July 13th, 2012 Issue Preview

A Richard Neutra GEM in Palos Verdes Estates.

"The ability to focus attention on important things is a defining characteristic of intelligence." Robert J. Shiller, Irrational Exuberance

The depth and diversity of architecture in the South Bay is amazing. From historic beach bungalows to majestic villas along the coast, the South Bay has it all.

In this issue's SWEET DIGS, we had the opportunity to tour one of legendary architect Richard Neutra's classic designs -- The restored Dailey House in Palos Verdes Estates. Richard Neutra, (1892-1970) the Austrian-born architect was one of the founders of California Modernism whose clean, crisp, sharp designs inspired countless architects. Built in 1959, The Dailey House was beautifully restored by architect John Blanton and is an exception example of Neutra's craft. Don't miss the article and photos starting on page 54.

In addition to the wonderful architecture and homes in the South Bay -- it's also home to some pretty amazing people. We got the chance to visit with Professional Surfer and Palos Verdes local Alex Gray, whose affinity for the South Bay is refreshing for someone who has traveled the globe in search of the perfect wave. Read "The Unstoppable Alex Gray: Professional Surfer Lives Life to the Max," starting on page 38.

On the COVER this issue is a remarkable Tuscan Villa located just atop the Bluff Cove in prestigious Malaga Cove in Palos Verdes Estates. Absolutely one of the finest estates on the Pacific Coast with jaw dropping panoramic ocean views this George Sweeney designed Villa has it all. Offered by The Edler Group, (Rick Edler, Kitty Edler & Darin DeRenzis) Peninsula Sotheby's International. Check all the details starting on page 22.

A beautifully remodeled custom Craftsman home is this issue's HOME OF THE WEEK. Located in a highly desirable neighborhood of East Manhattan Beach, this home exudes character and charm throughout. Check the details on page 31 and view the HD Property Video Tour at www.YouTube.com/SouthBayDigs. Offered by Lisa Stott & Brittny Burford, Shorewood Realtors.

Crank up the music with this issue's LOCAL NUGGET where we drop in on "concerts in the Park" at Polliwog Park in Manhattan Beach.

Finally, we're LOOKING BACK at the "Catalina Casino: A Regal Landmark," a 12-story building built in 1929 that was the tallest structure in Los Angeles County at the time. Read more on page 28.

Enjoy!
