In this video I am going to show you how I made emotes for twitch and discord! This was my first time trying to make a custom emoji but I think they came out pretty good! I started off with making sure I had the right kind of square to work with so that the quality of my drawings come out ok.
First I made and colored a canvas that was 800x800 that way when I resize it later the drawing will still be readable. Then I made a larger canvas separately. I copied the the 800x800 canvas and pasted it onto the large one and started duplicating the square until I had a grid of squares that I could work with. Then I began sketching my ideas onto the squares. Drawing different expressions is always good but also try to make emotes that make references to your channel or stream that way your emotes feel more personal!
After sketching I lined everything and started coloring them. I use clip studio paint when I work but a lot of digital drawing programs should work similar.
After everything was colors, I went back and gave everything a thicker black outline and then made another outline to everything in white. This makes it so that my emote pops out on dark and light backgrounds.
It's also important to keep lettering in mind. If you want words, make sure they are short words and that they are readable from far away.
take a good look at your emotes from afar to see if you are happy with them and then start resizing and saving them!
Twitch's emote sizes are 112x112 56x56 and 28x28 so very small. Your art will probably look pixelated but that's okay! They will be tiny and as long as you have strong expressions in your emotes they should read ok from afar. If you have any questions, leave a comment below and I will answer them as best I can!
