NC500 E16: The grand finale to my road trip around the North Coast 500 as I take a tour of Inverness - the capital of the Highlands with just enough time to explore the highlights on a self-guided walking tour. ➡️ See more from my NC500 Road Trip here → http://bit.ly/mwt_NC500

After eight days driving and nearly 600 miles of stunning scenery (I took a few wrong turns) it was sadly time to complete the circuit and head home. However, before heading off to the airport I had just enough time to explore Britain's most northerly city & capital of the Scottish Highlands. Inverness is known as the Gateway to the NC500, mainly because the route around Scotland's Northern coastline begins and ends at Inverness Castle in the centre of the city. It's also a cultural and historical heavyweight deserving of at least a day of your time. Sadly I only had ninety minutes so come and find out how much of Inverness I could see in a couple of hours.

My walk around Inverness started close to Falcon Square and the High Street, however it wasn't long before I was crossing the River Ness and exploring St Andrew's Cathedral and a few narrow alleyways on route to the Greig Street Bridge. It was lovely to see Inverness Castle above the river and waterfront buildings - it was one of those famous postcard shots and a great place to snap a few photos!

Back on the east side of the river I spotted Dunbar's Hospital, the historic Victorian Market and the huge Georgian Tolbooth steeple adjoining an old courthouse and jail. Before calling it a night I headed up to Inverness Castle for some amazing panoramic views and to complete my epic journey around the North Coast 500 in Scotland.
