A tragic accident shook a community in Michigan after 66-year-old Marshella Chidester drove her SUV into the Swan Boat Club during a children's birthday party. The devastating crash killed two young siblings, 8-year-old Alanah Phillips and 4-year-old Zayn Phillips, and left over a dozen others injured—including their older brother, who suffered multiple serious injuries. The incident took place in Newport, about 30 minutes southwest of Detroit.
Chidester faced eight charges, including two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing death. Despite the gravity of the charges, she was released on a $1.5 million bond just two days after her arraignment in Monroe County.
Her attorney claims she only had one glass of wine and that a medical episode may have caused the crash. However, authorities reported that her breathalyzer results showed a blood alcohol level well above the legal limit. The crash has left a heartbroken family.
