The transport option for Paris you may never hear about. The Navigo Découverte.

The official Paris Tourist website and physical sites pushed the Paris Visite card, or the PassLib (a combination travel ticket, museum pass, and tourist trap bus and boat ride) to all visitors. It's much cheaper to forego the tourist trap options, buy the Museum Pass yourself, and get a travel ticket that blows the Paris Visite out of the water. It's the travel option never intended for tourists that tourists can take full advantage of. This is the Navigo Découverte (or Navigo Discovery in English), a weekly or monthly pass for commuters that suits backpackers and tourists perfectly.
