Where to live in Milan plus useful infos
Areas to rent a house and live in Milan to consider:
Navigli / Darsena (Porta Genova / 24 March / Colonne / San Gottardo),
Porta Romana and Brera & Isola in the centre.
Milano is not too big, not too small, just 1,3 million people.
Aperitivo in Navigli - pay for the drink and eat free 10/15 euros. No need to let tips but if you want, it is always welcome.
Milano public transport system (ATM) is quite good actually.
Perfect would be to live near metro or tram nr 3 or 15,
example, if you are Bocconi University student.
Milan has 3 airports:
MXP Malpensa with bus or Malpensa Express train 1h*
LIN Linate 30 minutes bus drive*
BGY Bergamo Orio al Serio 60 minute bus drive*
*depends from the traffic
Esselunga is the main supermarket.
Alternatives Carrefour Express but also PAM, Simply.
Cheapest MD in via Palmieri.
AUMAI - Chinese supermarket to buy home stuff.
We have IKEA also and Kasa.
Laundromat Viale Tibaldi 1 + my hair dresser near, - New Look - Via Meda (I forget).
Also art school NABA and Domus Academy and my office is near.
Ice Cream shop - Gelateria - Gusto 17, Via Savona 17
Forget also: Good vegan hamburger: Flower Burger Via Tortona 12
You can get your card from ATM point near Duomo (Milano Public Transport Agency)
You can buy tickets from Tabaccheria near "T" signs or with Italian SIM via sms.
1 day ticked 90 minutes for all public transport for 90 minutes:
metro (can enter one time), tram, bus, trolleybuses.
Taxi app: FREE NOW.
Milano is good hub to go in few hours in mountains to ski
(best place I can recommend is Chamonix) or in the sea near Genova.
Recommended to visit in Italy, you can use Flexi bus (cheaper but very slow)
Freccia Rossa or Italo fast train to travel everywhere fast (not cheap)
In Europe you can fly everywhere in few hours (cheaper than to use fast trains many times) ;)
EasyJet vs Ryanair
I referee EasyJet as it is more convenient to travel with Malpensa Express to T2 (only EasyJet flights)Ryanair sometimes can be little cheaper, but check the total price
after you add Carry on luggage and seat (if you want a guarantee to be able to sit together)
Very easy to travel inside Europe. Weekend in Europe can be cheaper than to travel in Italy.
Be prepared, Milano is expensive city:
Only people who come from London and New York say it is cheaper here.
Many nice cities in Italy: Verona, Venice, Florence, Rome, Naples, Sorrento, 5 Terre from La Spezia & Europe: little cheaper places like Budapest, Krakow, Prague, Istanbul but also London (but very expensive) and Amsterdam, Monaco, Paris, Madrid, Barcelona, Dublin etc.
to visit.
Good luck and see you here in Milan soon!
