Not only the Soviet- Cold War Tank Drop: AMX-30 Drives Straight Off a Train #tank #танк #戦車

Soviet tanks were famous for their brutal simplicity—sometimes unloading from trains by simply driving straight off the railcars, letting steel tracks and rugged suspension absorb the drop. It looked reckless, but it proved how quickly armored units could deploy without ramps or special equipment.

But the Soviets weren’t the only ones who could do it. Moments later, a French AMX-30 demonstrates the same daring technique—rolling off a train car and dropping to the ground in one smooth motion.

This French AMX-30 demonstrates a rapid rail-unloading technique used by armored units to deploy quickly. Instead of waiting for ramps, cranes, or special unloading platforms, the tank simply drives forward off the railway flatcar. As the front tracks leave the wagon, the vehicle’s long track base and torsion-bar suspension absorb the sudden drop while the rear tracks still grip the railcar. Within seconds the entire 36-ton tank slides down to the ground and continues moving forward. This method allowed mechanized forces to unload many vehicles in a short time, ensuring that armored formations arriving by train could become combat-ready almost immediately—an important capability during large NATO exercises and potential rapid deployments across Europe. 🚆🪖
