AGO Makes: Summer Edition - Sound & Art with Laura Barrett

Learn how to create art using the sounds around us! Join Tiana Roebuck, AGO Associate Curator, Studio Programming and Learning in conversation with special guest, Laura Barrett, a recording artist, composer, and teacher who has released multiple albums, including three feature film soundtracks. In this conversation Laura will show us fun ways to experiment with sound and incorporate sound into your artmaking at home.

Laura Barrett is a singer/songwriter/composer, who has released multiple albums, including three feature film soundtracks, and served as music director to several live comedy and theatrical productions. She also holds a Master of Teaching degree from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, as a certified Junior/Intermediate teacher. Laura has mentored youth through Girls Rock Camp Toronto and at Dixon Hall Music School’s overnight camp, designed curricula and led instruction at Camp Make-a-Game, and currently works with the TDSB as a supply teacher. Laura has also taught Children & Youth courses and summer camps at the AGO. Her culminating master’s research project examined creative thinking in the classroom. She brings this ongoing investigation to her teaching work and beyond, grounding her artistic and educational practices in empathy, curiosity, and hope.
