Aston Martins, Monks and Monorails - The National Motor Museum, Beaulieu

A trip to the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu, Hampshire during the Simply Aston event, a meet of the Aston Martin Owners Club. As usual for England it was raining but there was still an impressive collection of Astons.

It’s then into the National Motor Museum itself with it’s large collection of cars and motorbikes from the early days of motoring to the supercars of today. It also has a really good motorsport collection including Ayrton Senna’s Toleman, Jenson Button’s McLaren and Damon Hill’s Williams.

We also found ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’!

As well as the Motor Museum, Beaulieu has extensive grounds and gardens which were originally a part of the old Beaulieu Abbey. The Abbey was founded by King John in the 13th Century and was destroyed on the orders of King Henry VIII in 1538.

There is also a display documenting the agents of the Special Operations Executive (SOE) during World War Two, Beaulieu’ was used as a top secret training establishment.

Also open to the public is Palace House which was once the gatehouse of Beaulieu Abbey and has been the Montagu family home since 1538.

To get back to the main entrance we took the monorail which can be a tight squeeze if you are over 6 foot. The kids seemed to like it judging by the screams as it entered the station.
