Aleh Tsyvinski Lecture "The Economics of Cryptocurrencies"
Cryptocurrencies are a new phenomenon in economics and finance. Academic lecture aims
to explore what cryptocurrencies represent using the tools of asset pricing.
Are they a new form of currency, a new commodity, a stake in the future of
blockchain technology? What drives the prices of cryptocurrencies? Can
cryptocurrency movements be predicted?

About the Speaker
Aleh Tsyvinski - NES Visiting Professor, Arthur M. Okun Professor of Economics at Yale
University and works as a Research Associate at NBER. He received a PhD from
the University of Minnesota and is one of the world’s leading scholars of
macroeconomics and public finance. Tsyvinski was also selected by The World
Economic Forum to join the elite class of Young Global Leaders 2009. His
research interests cover optimal fiscal policy and pension systems, economics
of information, political economy and cryptocurrencies. His research was
recognized by numerous awards including a five-year CAREER award from the
National Science Foundation, Guggenheim Fellowship, and an Alfred P. Sloan
Research Fellowship.
